Special to me

How did my interest for music come to life?
=================================

Hi folks! I share with everybody now what was the first song which truly led me to get immersed in music, in 1993. Then, what happened to me next, and made me become an electronic dance music lover.

It is Billy Joel - River of Dreams

Around that time, for a short period indeed, I stayed involved with Flash Back, under my father's influence who used to listen to that everyday, artists such as A-Ha, Pet Shop Boys, Prince, Elton John, Bee Gees, Abba, Fred Mercury, Barry White, among many others, so many songs of 60s, 70s and 80s.

It's worth noting that River of Dreams came to my hears first on TV, I used to watch "Rede Manchete" channel ("Rede TV" now), and that song was played in almost every commercial (part of it), advertising the radio station of the same name, "Manchete", what was the first station I dedicated myself to.

From "Manchete FM", going over "Antena 1" and "Alpha FM", all of similar styles of music, I ended up at "Radio X" (now it's called "CBN", with totally different programs). There, I had my first contact with a national Rap song, produced by Racionais MCs, the one below, which served as a link to another radio that used to play electronic dance music.

As said above, by listening "Radio X", I knew the song above, and such a song used to be played on "Nova FM", a genuine electronic dance music. Once there, electronic dance music began to be my favorite style, the station was one of the best in Sao Paulo for Eurodance and House, acclaimed by lots of people to be the best electronic dance music ever over here since it was totally commanded by DJs. Then now, I point out my very first electronic music of interest, Ally Us - Follow me, a House song of the label Strictly Rhythm:

From this point onwards, lots of artists' names came about:

MK, Circle Children, Stay C, Shazam, Delegation, David Moralles, 20 Fingers, Andrew Sixty, Masterboy, Timeshift, Whigfield, Snap!, and lots more, including Reggae artists such as Inner Circle and Pato Banton.

Alongside "Nova FM", other electronic dance music specialized radio stations took part of my days, such as "Jovem Pan 2" e "Metrô FM" ("Metropolitana FM" today), and some programs on "Transamérica", all through 1994.

Last but not least, in 1995, it was born "97 FM Hot Nine Seven", an old Rock radio, what I rapidly deemed the best electronic dance music radio station here in Sao Paulo, Brazil, a big authority for Eurodance, whereas "Nova FM" ceased to broadcast such styles of music inexplicably. Nowadays, "97 FM Hot Nine Seven" still exists, but under the name "Energia 97", a name chosen in the year 2000.

I must not forget to mention that "Metrô FM", in 1994 - 1995, was unique because it was the one and only station that largely explored Jungle and Underground House Music here in Sao Paulo, especially in the program "Manda Bala do Ouvinte", whereby listeners could ask for a song and they would always choose either Jungle or House, the Underground scene only.

On and on... with much Eurodance mainly, called in Europe as Eurohouse, all through the remaining years of the century.

The name Trance was quite unknown here in Sao Paulo, being Robert Miles and his Children the first Trance track that I listened in 1996, though without knowing it was Trance. From 1998 on, some other Trance songs began to appear, but the name Trance was still unknown, most songs were deemed Techno, artists such as Sash!, Da Hool (Nalin & Kane remix), Faithless (Armand van Helden's remix), Underworld, Brainbug, and some minor others. The year 2000 was the substantial one for Trance music here commercially speaking, especially due to the station "Energia 97" and "Metropolitana" that used to play ATB, Planet Perfecto, Alice Deejay, Paul van Dyk, System F, Gouryella, etc. and radio CDs brought even more with Mauro Picotto, Mario Piu, Ayla, Trance All Stars, Darude, Safri Duo, DJ Quicksilver, Gigi D'Agostino, Fragma, Lasgo, etc. This is simply too little comparing with Europe, we remained without knowing what Acid, Hard and Dream Trance were for instance, and till today, Trance is not as strong as in Europe, except for Psy-Trance which Brazil represents the world #1 in that scene, but even so the vast public remain without knowing the great extent of Trance music and how beautiful it can be so as to be qualified for radio stations and more commercialized.

The aforementioned reveals how my interest for music was born, how I moved along, shifting from Flash Back to Electronic Dance Music in the early 90s, and the roles radio stations in Sao Paulo played in the definition of my initial path. Fortunately, the stations I used to listen sometimes dedicated themselves to electronic dance music of the 80s, so I could get some knowledge of it, of what was successful in Brazil before my official start as a music enthusiast.

Just curiosity...
